George Washington was born on 11 February 1731, but it was changed to 22 February 1732 with the introduction of the Gregorian calender.  Although his birthday is now merged with Lincoln’s as the Federal holiday of “Presidents’ Day”, he will always be, in my mind but borrowing the words that “Light Horse Harry” Lee chose to eulogize him with, “First in War, First in Peace, and First in the Hearts of his Countrymen”.  In honor of this day, I have decided to provide a link upload to a monograph that I wrote in 1998 on the uniforms worn by Washington and the ideology conveyed by such personal artifacts.  It was published in The 44th Washington Antiques Show Catalogue (1998), 94-101.  I do plan to publish an expanded version of this work in future, but I hope you enjoy the original version in the interim.  All the best, JLK
