An early and authoritative geographical and historical reference work on Connecticut and Rhode Island, compiled by Pease and Niles using firsthand sources and local records. The work is divided into two parts, one for each state, and includes detailed descriptions of towns, physical features, institutions, and historical notes. An important example of early American regional geography, it includes two engraved portraits and folded, engraved maps of each state, which were considered improved for the time. A very good and complete copy, although with light toning and random foxing to the pages; half-bound in modern leather with marbled boards and raised bands and gilt lettering to spine.
